Teaching Skills with Books in Mind

In this workshop teachers will see how to design skill and strategy lessons. When possible literature will be used as a focus in the instruction. This better prepares students for transfer and application of the skills taught. Teachers will be introduced to the minilesson approach.  Integrating science, social studies, math, and the arts with literacy through books and poetry is a powerful component of this seminar. Teachers will be given activities and lessons to use immediately, as well as resources to follow up the training.

Linking literacy with content is also explored as a powerful way to integrate multiple subject areas while learning and practicing reading strategies. Tips for managing what can sometimes become a complex process will be included in the seminar.
