Strategies for Struggling Readers and Writers

 

This session is designed for elementary teachers of struggling readers—2nd grade and up, special education and English as a Second Language teachers, and administrators can benefit from the techniques and strategies found in this workshop.

 

This training will focus on strategies for the “at risk” readers and writers, those students who need extra support.  Attendees will be given structures and strategies to support students who find reading and writing a challenge and are often working below grade level expectations.  This includes ESL, Bilingual, and Dyslexic students.

 

  • Finding time for additional reading and writing practice
  • Ways to provide one on one help
  • Finding and training tutors
  • Ways to match students with the appropriate reading material
  • Coordinating regular classroom teacher with reading specialist or resource teacher
  • Supporting your “two-language” children
  • Setting the struggling student up for success
