Always Looking for a Better Way?
As educators, we are always looking for a better, more efficient and more effective way, to teach our students what they need to learn. I guess that is why there is always a new program or a new curriculum—a new way to do things at school. Literacy is one area that I always felt that there had to be a better way.
Those Teachable Moments—Living History
We all know our students spend way too much time in front of the television, but in the next few days, we can expect them to be watching history in the making. There will not be a lot of choice about what to watch on the networks. So let’s take advantage and get some good from that television time. Current events can be the impetus for some of the most relevant lessons you will ever teach. The inauguration of our first African American President provides ample opportunities for real life lessons in every area of the curriculum. Read the rest of this entry »
